LS 589 - Lesson Plan - Space.htm My first WebQuest didn't really center on web-based research as much as it should. So, I am providing a space exploration lesson plan that is suited for 8th thru 10th grade Earth/Space Science Students. You can ignore my other posted lesson below (about The Giver). Thanks.

I know I did this before, but I can't find my original post so I guess I put it in the wrong place. Here they are! I hope this works now...I am so frustrated.
Eureka! I have figured out my troubles. In order to edit this wiki, I have to access the URL from outside of blackboard...meaning I cannot use the link through the LS589 website. Once I logged in, typing in a refreshed URL, I was able to edit, no problem.
So here is the link to my WebQuest for LS589 Fall 2009: Teen Travel Guide, developed with Spanish teacher, Eva Tomecka for grades 9-12. This WebQuest has potential use in both foreign language (Spanish) classes and Geography.

LS 589- Web Quest - Biome Travel Brochure
I worked with with antoher biology teacher in the biology department at my high school, Kristi Rose, to create this Web Quest. I think the kids will really enjoy it. The good news is that I had great success updating my Rollyo account to meet the specific needs of this quest. The bad new is that I have no idea if it will post here correctly. But I will try:)

LS 589 - WebQuest - Edgar Allan Poe Collaboration Project
Given the challenge everyone has been having with uploading their WebQuests, I hope that mine comes through okay. I collaborated with the 11th Grade English teacher to create a WebQuest on Edgar Allan Poe, so you will not see my name on the actual quest. I also definitely did not like the format of Seneca, so I shifted to WikiSpaces (one of the few wiki sites to which our school filters allow access). I wanted the teacher I created the WebQuest for use to actually want to use it. I have provided a link for the Seneca file and address for the Wikispaces WebQuest.

LS 589 - Lesson Plan - Jonas' Fate.htm OK - I must admit that I have had some major complications navigating throught this wiki. However, I'm pretty sure this link that I am about to include will take you to my WebQuest. It is a Language Arts lesson (9th-10th grade) about the novel The Giver, which we thankfully had to read last semester. The ideas in the book really made me think about conformity and how we seem to strive for that for some unknown reason. Anyway, you can (hopefully) find it at the above link.
I developed a webquest called Discovering Americans Who Made History. I was having some trouble with my Rollyo and just put my links on the webquest. If I can get it fixed, I will put it here. Sara Lewis
I am going to try to post the saved file of my wwebquest, since the link seems to default to whichever quest is most recently completed. Here goes nothing! Hi Everyone! I am uploading my WebQuest for my Technology class at Clarion University. This is only the second WebQuest I have created - although, I had to relearn the process since the first one was done a long time ago. Hi all... This is the function I have been searching for in our LS589 class, the edit tab for the Wiki. Laura it also took me a few tries to edit this page. Did I miss something? Are we supposed to add links to our webquests or are you just practicing getting the links correct at this site? Have a great night!
Regina C
Two things that I have noticed: I have clicked on Edit at least ten times in the last two hours at various times. This is the first time it has allowed me to type. I must say that this is frustrating. Seocnd thing. All of our links to our webquests are taking us to Valerie's webquest. They all have the same url. I don't know enough (surprise!) to understand how this seneca place stores its webquests, but I think that I'll try posting mine and see what happens.

OK, this link isn't doing anything. My next great idea is to go old school and add it as an attachment. Of course, I saved my webquest as a Word doc because I couldn't quite get my mind around saving something to nowhere that I could get my hands on it again. I see that there is no attachment place on the tool bar. Must be too outdated of an idea. Clearly, though, you can see that I should get an A for effort!

Now I have finally created an avatar that I am pleased with (above). Using the link on the blog page, I created an M & M avatar. The process was a lot of fun and efficient.
This looks like fun! I read down the sandbox and see some are talking about old sayings and where they come from. My mother knows a ton of these (I have no idea how). Here is an interesting one we were talking about just a couple years ago. Do you know where the saying "Mind your Ps and Qs" came from? In saloons in the old days some bartenders would keep track of your Pints and Quarts of beer. If you started getting to rowdy (or didn't pay your tab), you could be kicked out so, of course, they had to mind their Ps and Qs! I thought it was pretty cool but then again I am a nerd! :-)
Just like to add my new classroom creation..1st attempt at a webquest, thanks to my LS589 class. The template was easy to follow (once the idea came together) but what I don't like is that all the spaces I put in between numbers and directions have all disappeared. Its just not as visually pleasing as I would like..but the content is good. Let's hope my students think so too. check it out

It seems this page has gone to the dogs. In case anyone wants a wiki idea for a classroom, my ideas are from others and not original yet. My cats and dog tend toward President Iams.
My dog loves vegetarian dog food. I don't know why. Perhaps it is because Veteranarian sounds a lot like vegetarian. She'd love to get rid of that vet if she could. If only she knew that the vet is as good for her as vegetables!
Now it appears that the dog is left holding the bag..or in this case the paper!.....I wonder how he will vote in the next primary?....I'm thinking he will lean towards Hillary; she seems to have cornered that portion of the demographic! If that dog were registered in IL it could vote a few times and raise no suspiscion at all. Hmmm and Fred....a beagle named Fred? Mmm...it's not going to happen!
Poor Fred, he gets blamed for everything that goes wrong in our house. Fred is the only puppy in the house with three cats and two boys. The boys never admit to doing anything wrong and the cats run and hide when I walk in the room. One day, I found a large mess on the floor. I asked around and no one admitted to doing it. I then began to investigate the incident and to my surprise, I saw Fred sitting next to the mess thirty minutes later with a sign in his mouth that read, "The Cat Did It!" You can imagine my surprise! After looking at the sign closely, I realized that Fred couldn't have written the sign, as he is partially dyslexic, (he thinks he's God in fact) and the words would have looked a bit different. I then started to wonder if the dog was part of an international ring or possibly some organized crime family like the "Dogbeno" family. Then I was brought back to reality realizing that there was no cat at all in the household. Could it be a "mole" dressed up to look like a cat? What could happen next?
But There IS a cat... three cats, in fact. This last preceding paragraph contains a logical conundrum which may require much further attention from the original author to remove. While waiting for such attention, I venture to explain that in my house there are 2 dogs and a few unwelcome cats which do not respect house boundaries at all and wander in and out of the compound at will, leaving occasional smelly messes when they do. Said cats also create a din in the compound sometimes with their howling and catfights, not to mention occasional forays into sensitive areas such as the kitchen and other areas inside the house. Our poor dogs can raise the alarm but are usually otherwise behind bars - literally - in the doghouse - and thus unable to respond in an immediate and aggressive manner to any cat intrusions.
Believe you me, a cat is better than any dog in a fight, but 2 dogs working together can outfight any cat, even one in a corner, and the cats know this. On those very rare occasions when the dogs are loose in the compound and a cat is discovered, said cat is always very quick to make it into the next compound rather than fight.
Someone else can finish this and help to make it a fun story...
How sad, blamming this on the poor kitties. What did they ever do to the poor dog? I like being able to add stuff to things that someone else has added. We could write some incredible stories this way.
Yes, I'm sure we could write "Best-sellers" this way. I wonder how much we would make by doing this. Wouldn't it be great?
Perhaps if the dog was out jogging at 5A.M., like our Peanut, he wouldn't be eating notebooks. The Dog Whisperer says, "Exercise, discipline, and then Affection."
I'm just experimenting with the edit feature:
I was just messing around with images and uploading. This seemed so appropriate after our 14 week old puppy ate part of my daughter's social studies notebook. Images that can have messages edited could be used to help with vocabulary in various subjects.
I find it refreshing that the dog speaks English!...and that he has the foresight to blame it on someone else! Next person in here please edit this out of the sand box. I am a bit unsure if I should dig around in this sandbox with the idea in mind of a cat or a swarm of cats being in the same vicinity! Especially if those cats were eating paper....all that roughage you know!
Well, I know that my dogs prefer raiding the litter box to blaming the cat for something they've done. Fortunately, no social studies notebook has been molested by either cat or dog in my house...
You're lucky. Our dog molested a number of library books. It was quite an experience going to the library and saying, "The dog did it."
Okay, I don't own a dog ...so I am going to change directions with this little question... and may get others to add to the wiki...
Where did the saying "The Dog Days of Summer".. meaning the muggy days of this time of year... come from ??? Now don't just go and look on wikipedia... see if you can come up with a good reason that expression has stuck around for.... centuries...
have u ever seen a dog sprightly and cheerful in the muggy, sultry summer?!!...the poor things are lying around sweating through their mouths. And since homo sapeins do not do so any longer(who has a siesta nowadays?!!)...the phraseology must have stuck around!
[no web resources for this one]
"Dog Days" has a nice alliterative sound. I always associated the slow paced, muggy, sultry days of summer to be the Dog Days. Also, there is the Al Pacino movie, Dog Day Afternoon, which was not a happy tale. I think it's when the weather is miserable, and the dogs are lying on the street, hopefully in a little shade, and nothing can make them move.

According to my the mother of all Wikis - Wikipedia - Dog Days of Summer refers to the hottest, most sultry days of summer. They are a phenomenon of the northern hemisphere that usually falls between early July and early September but the actual dates vary greatly from region to region, depending on latitude and climate. Dog Days can also define a time period or event that is very hot or stagnant, or marked by dull lack of progress. At least as of July 22, 2008 at 7:04 PST.
I had hoped to find the answer to this on "Word for the Wise." Alas, it only had information on \"Raining Cats and Dogs" - a bad storm can be like a fight between a cat and a dog - and "Dogma" - either doctrine or an established opinion without adequate grounds. If my 'niece' Daisy is any indication of the meaning of Dog Days, it means sitting or laying at the feet of someone you love.
I have been spending the "dog days of summer" living in San Francisco where it is winter time. I know he didn't really say it, but I love the quote that has been attributed to Mark Twain, "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." Whoever said it, was right on.
I haven't really heard that saying here is Australia, so obviously it is a northern hemisphere type event. To change direction again, what do we know about "pigs"? "When pigs fly" (an unlikely event), "Happy as a pig in mud" (involved in something causing the involvee to be very happy). Any one know any more?
By now, the cat’s great appetite has caused it to grow to a humongous size. Coupled with its wandering nature, it has triggered a couple of alarms in the neighbourhood. When it strayed into the neighbour’s backyard, its black colour and size give the impression of a BIG wild cat (black panther?) We were told to restraint the cat but anyone who has kept cats before would know that it is close to impossible. You only hear of “walking the dog”, but never the cat. You can confine a dog to a house but not the cat.
One day, ...
dog decided that chasing cats around the compound and all over the kitchen was really no fun. It just made everyone mad, especially when there were muddy paw prints all over the brand new carpet. One glorious morining, it spied something more interesting in the house just across the road - a new neighbour - an oh-so-lovely maltese of a gal. Such luscious eye lashes, such dainty paws and my, my, fur as white as snow. He could feel his heart skip a beat as his thoughts ran wild. Gosh! Was she some kind of a princess? Dog could almost imagine himself fetching a slipper for her to chew on... he wondered how he could catch her attention.... Could this possibly be puppy love????i
With reference to the above dog story, Doris writes very well and from a perspective uncommon among most people. I really enjoyed it. CK
Hmm...it'a a tough act to follow. As the dog observed the new kid on the block, a lady in sports attire came out of the house with a cat on a leash, walking towards the tennis court. Whoever has heard of a cat on a leash? The dog was curious and dashed after the lady. Well, all seemed normal as the lady played a few rounds of tennis with her friends while the cat slept comfortably under a shady tree. When they decided that they had enough exercise, the lady just walked the cat home. Now, how did that happen?....No cat fights? Strange....wildrabbit
My worst fear is that while I'm sitting on the floor grading student's notebooks that my little guy will decide he needs to chew on one of them. I think my students would find it kind of entertaining, but their parents might not be so happy that their little Timy's entire semester of work was eaten by my pup.

I had a link to a Voki that was a husky and who talked. I then had a photo of several huskies. Neither one would show up on this sandbox wiki. I definitely do not have the touch! They would have made great additions to this story, and added some class.

Here's a picture for the sandbox. So the picture link is off to the right. I don't know how to get it on the page.

The pic of the dog is adorable. Of course, he has to have someone to blame, since we all say, "my dog ate it."

Our chocolate lab,"Babka," (after Seinfeld's Jewish deli cake)has taken up snake hunting in earnest. He patrols the 5 acres of grass looking for something that slithers, then, probably paying no attention to the rattling sound all around him, bites off the head of the wiggling creature. Actually, to date he's only killed "the good guys," the ones that don't rattle ( which is part of the reason we have more gophers than ever) but I'm waiting for the time when I come home to find him with a face swollen bigger than texas...

So just like many of you this is my first time to a Wiki and posting something. I am just trying everything out! I guess from here you can't upload or spell check, hmmm? In a different situation, how do you stop students from deleting the postings of others? Or is this not a problem? As far as the dog story my 80 lb monster is laying next to me snoring...up late with fireworks!

I tried to add a photo of Al Pacino, but only HUGE photos appeared. I used the brackets [ ] around the web address, but couldn't figure out how to reduce the size of the photo. I think the pbwiki directions-buttons could be MORE intuitive and helpful. It would be nice if adding a photo were as easy as on the blog.

Erica,
I changed the picture size and moved around the text just a little. Actually resizing the picture was really simple-- you just had to 'grab it' and decrease the size.

This is my first time posting on a wiki; though I have read them in the past. Since this is about dogs, it will help me to share that I had to have our 10 year-old golden retriever put down a couple of weeks ago. Very emotional for the family. But we still have his brother!

Wikis are great tools for "finish the story" type of collaborative projects. And if things get too crazy, the editor can always go back in and erase as needed :)

Help! I can't edit this wiki! When I click on the edit tab above, I get the sidebar, but the area to actually edit the wiki is blank. Anyone else experiencing this?
My WebQuest is designed for high school Spanish/Geography students. I collaborated with Spanish teacher Eva Tomecka to design a Teen Travel Guide assignment. The students will choose a Spanish-speaking country to research and will use my RollYo resources as well as several online databases (CultureGrams, World Book Online) to do their research. Ms. Tomecka designed the task and the rubric. I provided the resource list and we both worked on the procedure and evaluation. This is something that we plan to use with Spanish classes next week. It is their final grade for the first quarter.

My WebQuest is designed for 7th grade science students. Its purpose is for students to discover how various types of rocks are formed and document the path of a rock formation from its beginnings to its current location.
I'm not sure if this will come up as a live link or not, but somehow I uploaded the link and it landed on the sidebar and it's labeled as:

I couldn't edit this wiki either! (There was no toolbar or anything on the Edit page - later I somehow requested permission to edit, but since nothing's come of that yet, this will have to do)!
http://classroomlearning2.pbworks.com/f/Bay+Webquest.html
(It's also located on the sidebar in the Sandbox)
My WebQuest is for intermediate students (mid-late elementary - early middle school). The focus is on the Chesapeake Bay and the environmental problems it is facing. Experiments, games, photographs and other interactive features allow students to experience some of the impacts of the bay's destruction. Preservation methods and solutions are suggested and examined.
